Control Your Mind!

The phrase "Is this glass of water half empty or half full?" is a metaphor that is used to understand one's outlook on life. A negative and pessimistic person focuses on what they do not have, while a positive and optimistic person focuses on what they have. This metaphor is like worries in life, if you think about them for a short period of time, they do not have much effect, but if you dwell on them all day, they can make you feel low and depressed. The key is to focus on being cheerful and happy, whether it be at home or at work. One way to do this is to imagine beautiful things or recall happy memories. Another way is to write down negative thoughts on a piece of paper and discard them, telling your mind that they do not have the right to control you. It is important to train your mind to focus on what is important, as it can either control you or you can control it.

The other day, my colleague Niharika, who is an engineer, had a very bad headache and refused to go to work. Subasmita, who is a doctor and Niharika's roommate and also my friend, was clever enough to understand the reason behind this. Although she did not have a tablet for headaches, she did not want to disappoint her friend. Subasmita gave Niharika a digestive tablet without letting her know what it was, and told her that she would feel better after taking it. She also asked Niharika to drink lots of water and take a deep breath. While Niharika was doing this, Subasmita reminded her of the good moments from a recent trip. After a few minutes, Niharika returned to work and told me that her headache had disappeared within a few minutes of consuming the tablet. The digestive tablet had worked wonders for her. Although she did not know what tablet it was, she had faith in Subasmita. Niharika was told she would feel better after a few minutes and this helped her train her mind to believe she would feel better. A few minutes later, she noticed a remarkable difference in the way she felt. Her headache was only due to stress from work. Once she had cleared her mind, she continued to feel good.
