Thank You Doctors

During a visit to a hospital in Mexico, a blogger witnessed a doctor catching a few moments of rest at her desk in the early hours of the morning. In a rush to judgment, he took a photo and shared it online, alongside a critique that implied doctors should always remain awake and alert. However, this snapshot in time sparked a global conversation about the rigors of the medical profession.

Doctors around the world rallied in support of the fatigued physician, flooding social media with images of their own exhausted moments, accompanied by hashtags like "#IveAlsoFallenAsleep" and "#WeAreDoctorsNotMachines." These responses highlighted a crucial point that often goes unnoticed by the public: doctors are human beings who need rest.

The reality is that medical professionals frequently endure grueling schedules, working shifts that can extend beyond 36 hours, and sometimes totaling over 70 hours in a single week. The author of the original blog post observes that these conditions make it clear why a few minutes of rest can be not just beneficial, but necessary. And yet, there remains a tendency for some to scrutinize every action of healthcare workers, from taking calls to sharing a laugh with a colleague. The author reminds readers that doctors, like anyone else, have personal lives and loved ones they yearn to connect with during their long hours of service.

The consequences of sleep deprivation in the medical field cannot be overstated. A lack of rest can impair judgment and increase the risk of errors, which in turn can have serious implications given that a single surgery can span several hours, demanding intense concentration from the doctors involved.

I am writing this to thank all the hardworking doctors out there for giving best to their patients. Do share it with all your friends who are doctors to show them respect and to bring a smile on their face.
